9th Annual Edible Art Show

The 9th Annual Edible Art Show was held on Friday night, April 11th. This year there were nine food entries, each presented to the audience on raised pedestals. They were judged on percentage of food, design, craftsmanship, and creativity. Our three judges were Rebecca Minton, Mary Meyers, and Nancy Schwerin. Rebecca is a landscape based acrylic artist with paintings sold in the United States and Canada for public and private collections. She also works as an art therapist. Mary is the chairman of the Fine Arts department at Lockport High School and specializes in jewelry and paintings. Nancy is a Fashion Interior Design and Food and Nutrition instructor at Lyons Township High School.
From 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. guests were able to view the entries, have refreshments, and listen to music provided by Annie Schied on keyboard and Billy Philipchuk on saxophone. At 8 p.m. the judging was completed and winners were presented their ribbons. Best of Show was presented to Karin Magin for her entry, "Frogs Invade Monet's Water Lily". She also claimed the fifty dollar grand prize. Second Place was awarded to Susan Haussmann for "Here's the Scoop". There was a tie for Third Place: "Think Pink" by Michelle Kolmon and "Hen Pecked Gingerbread" by Kathy Brownfield.
From 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. everyone was invited to taste the beautiful art pieces. The show certainly appealed to all our senses. A great time was had by all. Special thanks to other league members for their help at the show: Nancy Green, Roger and Sharon Lipinski, and Jackie France.
Congratulations to those who were able to turn food into an inspiring (not to mention, delicious) art form! Start thinking of your ideas for next year! For the month of April photos of edible art entries will be mounted in the Art League display window.
