Course Overview: Unlock your creativity and paint your own personal masterpiece in this comprehensive acrylic painting class! In this class, students will learn to create detailed and realistic colored pencil renderings. Emphasis will be placed on starting with an accurate drawing before progressively applying color in layers and blending through burnishing to achieve a painterly effect. While portraits are the main focus, students are welcome to choose their subject matter. Join us to refine your colored pencil techniques and bring your artwork to life!

This workshop is designed for intermediate and advanced painters to expand skills in a community of peers with expert facilitation. Weekly demos focus heavily on portrait and figure studies, but participants are encouraged to paint subject matter of their choosing.

Encaustic Studio

In this class we’ll get right down to work, bypassing the basics and diving into more advanced one-on-one instruction and project focused worktime. Students should have a solid basic understanding of working with encaustic paints for this workshop. Sarah will meet with each student throughout the class for technical advice, as well individual critiques and group crits. Bring in works in process or new panels, along with your work concepts.
Supply list for all sessions:
Panels to work on depending on size. Flat will work, but cradled panels are easier to work on. Should be wood or Ampersand brand encaustic boards – advanced students may wish to work on one singular larger work

Anyone can learn to draw, and this six-week program will help you acquire those skills. Develop your artistic eye with step-by-step instructions using a combination of demonstrations, lectures, and drawing projects that will build your ability to see accurately. You will learn how to properly hold a pencil, define your subject with basic shapes, identify the outline of a subject, and build beautiful tone drawings by identifying the correct tonal values. This course will also touch on foreshortening and basic principles of perspective drawing. If you always wanted to draw or improve your current skills, this course will give you the fundamental tools you need.

Watercolor and Collage are fabulous mediums. When we marry them in a Watercolor Collage, we create a painting that celebrates the beauty and unique characteristics of each medium. Would you like to learn how to paint your own silk scarves?
We will explore three styles of silk painting: Microwave, Salt Dyeing and Acid dying.
Microwave Dying creates easy, one- of- a- kind scarves with rich blending of color by using the microwave to push the color.
Salt Dyeing is a style of painting scarves that uses salt as a desiccant which pulls the color.
Acid Dyeing involves sprinkling Acid Dyes onto silk and then using a combination of citric acid and microwaving for vibrant results.
Instructor will provide one make-up class, if a participant can’t make one of the sessions.
All supplies provided. A $40 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first class.

If you have done some silk painting, would you like to learn some additional techniques on how to paint your own scarves?
Advanced Silk Painting will add to the techniques that students learned in the first set of silk painting classes. This time, the first class will focus on microwave
dyeing with acid dyes on devore scarves (patterned, both silk and rayon), Alter Ego, and a third technique that will be selected by the students. Some possibilities include Batik, Tumble Dyeing, Ice Dyeing and Stamping, etc.
Instructor will provide one make-up class, if a participant can’t make one of the sessions.
