Encaustic’s ability to layer, add texture, optical depth all within a single painting allows us to create deeply nuanced works. Working with papers we create, found materials, photographic transfers- we will create a visual narrative of imagined worlds. This workshop series includes basic encaustic collage, under drawing, and mark-making using various other encaustic-friendly materials. Students will be encouraged to build story across multiple works as the start of a series.
Supply fee: $45 covers shared paints, oil sticks, other shared materials
Mandatory supplies:
• 1-2 lbs of encaustic medium, R&F or Enkaustikos
• A roll of blue or white shop towel papertowels
• 1 roll of 1” 3M blue painters tape (do not buy the Duck brand, does not have enough tack)
• X-Acto knife with #11 blades
• A roll of baking parchment paper
• small spray bottle for water
•6-7 Panels to work on- some should be cradled, can be wood or encausticboard. No larger than 11x14 or 12x12. Start with a few, you can buy more as class progresses
- • Papers you may want to collage into the work – no acrylic on them
Optional Items:
• Self-healing cutting mat
• Dried- pressed plant materials that can be pressed into the work

Anyone can learn to draw, and this six-week program will help you acquire those skills. Develop your artistic eye with step-by-step instructions using a combination of demonstrations, lectures, and drawing projects that will build your ability to see accurately. You will learn how to properly hold a pencil, define your subject with basic shapes, draw the outline of a subject, and build beautiful tone drawings by identifying the correct tonal values. This course will also touch on foreshortening and basic principles of perspective drawing. If you always wanted to draw or improve your current skills, this course will give you the fundamental tools you need.

This course is a continuation of the Basic Sketching and Drawing class and will benefit those who completed it as well as anyone with basic drawing skills.

Watercolor and Collage are fabulous mediums. When we marry them in a Watercolor Collage, we create a painting that celebrates their beauty and unique characteristics. In this class, watercolor will provide the foundation for the painting ... and ... adding a variety of collage materials can contribute texture and vibrancy. This class will focus more on watercolor techniques and feature more challenging class projects than the regular Watercolor Collage Class.

The Art of Wire Jewelry Making

Course Overview: This wire jewelry class allows students to practice forming wire to create earrings, a bracelet, and a pendant. Students will use the following jewelry techniques: wire wrapping, forging, forming, and sketching designs. The objectives of the wire jewelry class include
● Techniques: Wire forming and Wire Wrapping. Students practice shaping and manipulating wire to create a variety of designs. Students may link parts and include other media in the design.
● Tools: Students use hand tools to create jewelry. Students will use pliers (rosary, round nose, and needle nose), wire cutters, ball pein hammers, and bench blocks to form and forge jewelry components.
● Creating pieces: Students will create at least 3 pairs of earrings, 1 bracelet, and 1 pendant using various gauge wire and wire with beads.
● Exploring design concepts: Students practice creative design concepts for each piece of jewelry.
● Materials: Students will form and forge different types and gauges (thicknesses) of wire including brass and copper. Students will incorporate beads and other materials into their designs.
● Developing personal style: Students learn basic techniques to develop their style based on the criteria of designing jewelry from simple lines and shapes.
