Portraits in Watercolor - A Girl and Her Dog
Instructor: Tony Armendariz
Fee: $240
2 Day Workshop
Saturday, November 2nd & Sunday, November 3rd
Time: 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
A Girl and Her Dog
This workshop is designed for the painter who has at least a
basic command of the watercolor medium, the serious beginner
to the advanced student. After Tony’s demo, he will work with
students individually.
Day 1:
Tony will lecture and conduct a demo focusing on the figure and the
dog, individually. Topics covered include color palette, details and
technique. Students will then work on their own version from
reference supplied by Tony.
Day 2:
Tony will discuss and paint the whole composition. Students will
then work on their own version with instruction from Tony. A critique
will follow.
Basic Supplies Needed:
#8 and 14 round and 1” flat brushes for most of the painting. Smaller detail brushes or larger brushes are
fine also.
Pigments you will need: A warm Yellow (I use Cadmium Yellow Deep Hue), Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna,
Cadmium Red Light (Pyrrole Red is a good transparent alternative), Azo Orange (or any strong orange you
prefer), Sepia, Fr. Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Dioxazine or Imperial Purple, Payne’s Grey
Cold Press (preferred) watercolor paper, 140lb. 1⁄4 or 1⁄2 sheet. The blocks are good, too. 11 x 14 should be
the minimum size. Arches, Fabriano, Saunders or any professional grade, not a student grade like Canson
or Strathmore.
Masking fluid. I prefer Pebeo Drawing gum. I will give a demo on its usage and will provide applicators if
needed.

MID FALL SESSION DATES:

The Heroes and Villains comic workshop for adults dives into comic creation, scene construction, dynamic visual storytelling and publishing. You will design your own characters, both heroic and villainous, and create your own stories, facing challenges along the way. Those with a basic knowledge of anatomy and composition will be assisted in strengthening their storytelling skills.
Bring along your preferred method of sketching, whether that’s pencils/pens/markers and paper drawing pad, or digital drawing pad and stylus—whatever’s most comfortable for you.
