The Illinois Norsk Rosemaling Association (INRA) is excited to present a workshop series designed to introduce communities to the beautiful art of rosemaling. This traditional Norwegian folk art features a variety of distinct styles, each with unique yet interconnected characteristics.
The first session in the series serves as an introduction to the art of rosemaling. Participants will explore its rich history, diverse styles, and cultural significance through a presentation of rosemaled objects. The session also includes a live demonstration of the techniques, tools, and materials used in rosemaling.
Over the course of the three sessions, students will progress from foundational concepts to creating simple rosemaling designs. Instruction will cover essential elements such as scrolls, flowers, linework, and borders. Upon completing the series, participants will be well-prepared to pursue advanced beginner-level rosemaling classes.
For those wishing to continue their journey, both in-person and online rosemaling workshops are available year-round through the INRA and other affiliated groups nationwide. Join us and experience the timeless beauty of Norwegian folk art!
