Straw Marquetry is the art of using rye straw to decorate wall panels, furniture, and other objects. Rye straw ribbons are used to create simple straight parallel patterns as well as elaborate multi-colored geometric patterns and everything in between. In this class, you will first learn to create beautiful straw ribbons by splitting and flattening softened straw. You will then explore patterns and colors as you learn to lay straw onto a wood panel until the surface is covered. Other techniques will also be explored to learn more detailed decorative elements. An 8 x 8 board, rye straw and glue will be provided
