In this workshop series we will hone in and fine tune our skills with all things image transfer. We will be working towards getting a perfect toner-based transfer and exploring other materials that can be used for drawn transfers. We also will break down the steps of working on a large transfer that spans 2 pages with a hidden seam. Finally, we will perfect our fusing skills allowing us to bury transfers at lower layers of our painting, as well as techniques to hand color and paint on top of the transfers.
This is an intermediate level workshop, students must have a working knowledge of encaustic paints and materials.
All materials, including panels, paint, and tools will be provided for use each session for $30 payable at class, you See supply list for other base studio supplies needed.
Session 1 (3/13/21)- We will work on panel prep, getting that perfectly smooth surface to get the most out of our transfers, and we will also explore other dry media that works well transferred on to the encaustic surface. We will also begin to work with materials that will allow us to hand color in our transfer, and try layering on top of a transfer with intense fusing control to not break apart the image with building optical depth.
Session 2 (3/20/21)- This session is all about working large. We will take a singular image that has been digitally split in two, then work it back together in a two piece transfer, while doing our best to hide any seams. From there, we will carry over skills learned in the first session to hand color and alter the large transfer. Students may supply their own image to work with, or use one of mine. Final piece will be 12”x12”
