Beginning Rosemaling Workshop

Introduction to Rosemaling – Rosemaling is a Norwegian Folk Art, traditionally done in oil paint on wooden objects such as plates, bowls, boxes and trunks. There are many styles of rosemaling with both common and defining characteristics. Beginning students learn stroke work to create designs including scrolls, flowers, linework and borders.
Three sessions –
1. What is Rosemaling?
a. Defining Rosemaling– History and Styles
b. Demonstration of stroke work and plate development
c. Preparing plate and practice boards
2. Beginning Stroke work – Demonstration and practice
a. C stroke
b. S stroke
c. Creating flowers by combining stroke work
d. Line work and borders
