The LGAL provides artists an opportunity to create, exhibit and continue a fine arts education, no matter where you are on your creative path. 

Our instructors are working professionals including pastel artists, oil painting artists, watercolor artists, designers, and photographers. They mentor and train students to develop a diverse set of skills that foster imagination, concentration, leadership, teamwork, and creativity.

One-Day Workshop: Intro To Encaustic Painting Workshop

Intro To Encaustic Painting Workshop

Curious about what encaustic paints are and how to get started with them?  In this one day introductory workshop we will begin to explore the possibilities of the encaustic medium. Encaustic painting draws in artists from a wide variety of medium, such as mixed media, photographers, printmakers, painter and much more. We will work on the basics of working in this paint, as well as fusing tools and setting up a studio workspace. This workshop will give students a taste of what is possible with the medium. Most supplies are included in the workshop fee, see supply list for additional items.

With the portrait drawing class, students will be helped to understand and execute the basic principles involved in capturing a likeness on paper. These principles include hand/eye coordination, gesturing, and shading to achieve solidity of form. Students must supply a photo of someone of their choice to draw from.

​The objective of the workshop course is for intermediate and advanced painters to focus on the intention of the painting, how to tell the visual story, and to have fun. Watercolor and Collage are fabulous mediums. When we marry them in a Watercolor Collage, we create a painting that celebrates their beauty and unique characteristics. In this class, watercolor will provide the foundation for the painting ... and ... adding a variety of collage materials can contribute texture and vibrancy. This class will focus more on watercolor techniques and feature more challenging class projects than the regular Watercolor Collage Class.


Experience working in watercolor and collage materials will be helpful.
