Photo Encaustic: Ethereal Markings and Monochrome

9 am to 4pm each day

Limit 5 students

Intermediate level class

Student Cost: $450 m/ $480 NM

Supply fee to per student: $50

This workshop will explore ways to further alter our photographic images through a series of markings and underpainting combined with monochromatic imagery. We will focus on incorporating embedded photo prints on thin papers such as tissue and Japanese papers, as well as image transfers to create final work that is both ethereal and richly detailed in its layers. We will start off utilizing various methods of underdrawings to bring in pattern and additional detail to our work – with wood burning tools, inks, oil paints, and encaustic. Students will learn to finely hone their fusing skills to keep the integrity of their background markings, while adding layers that require both direct and indirect fusing in perpetration for embedding a print or transferring an image. Various printing methods and best practices will be covered while we are in the studio.

Students must have a working knowledge of encaustic, as this is an intermediate level class and basics will not be covered. We will be limiting registration to 5 students to give everyone a safe distance to work. $50 supply fee due at first day to cover encaustic paints/medium, printing and paper, oil sticks, etc. See supply list for additional items needed for the workshop.

We will be limiting the workshop to 5 students at this time, if the situation with Covid-19 greatly improves, a max of 8 students may be permitted. Register early to reserve your spot.
