Class Overview:
Work with designer wallpapers (silks, sisal, grunge, metallics and textures), high end fabric samples and trimmings, leather, buttons, wire, colorful tin, metals, and more!
Learn the art of “using what you have” to create sustainably, including learning how to create work surfaces made from recycled materials!
And discover some interesting and fun facts about the Fathers of Collage you probably didn’t know!
Participants will create a collage of an owl in nature using reclaimed wallpapers, fabrics,
buttons, etc. Instructor will provide all materials. Participants will be encouraged but not
required to bring additional materials.
Instructors will:
- provide each participant with a work surface made from recycled materials and provide instructions to create for future projects.
- review design basics: balance, harmony, contrast, etc.
- share how collage began, its powerful influence on art, and a fun fact about Picasso and his love for owls.
* All supplies provided by instructor.
Participants will create a composition sketch and color palette, select some materials, and begin creating the background in the morning. The afternoon will be devoted to creating the owl using one of the patterns provided, putting it all together, and sharing with the group. Participants may not be done with their piece and that’s ok! Good art can’t be rushed!
