#01 Plein Air Watercolor & Sketching
All Levels

Time: 9:30 am — 2 pm off site, locations vary each week
This class is for students with some art experience. We will paint and/or sketch in a different location each week. Working outdoors presents opportunities to work for a limited amount of time, select the most important features in a composition, adapt to changing light, see color as it really is and record an occasion After a lunch break there will be a group critique. 3.5 hours of instruction and l hour lunch break. #02 Artists: A Little This and That!
Ages 7-10
Instructor: Kathi Parisi
Session A: 6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25
Time: 10 am – noon upstairs studio
Kids will have the opportunity to learn about some of their favorite artists: Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh, (just to name a few!) and create their very own piece of art to coordinate with the artist of the day. Your budding Rembrandt will surely love this class! Supplies included in the registration fee.

#03 Painting Explorations in Water Media
Ages 11-14
Instructor: Kathi Parisi

Time: 1 pm – 3 pm upstairs studio
Kids will learn the basic principles and techniques for watercolor painting. They will also obtain advice on mixing colors, brushwork, washes, masking, and texture methods along with composition of landscapes and seascapes. Come join us … your young painter will amazed at their very own talent while having a fun afternoon! Supplies included in the registration fee. Fee: $78NM 4 weeks
#04 Color and Composition

This course will provide the student a practical foundation for understanding color theory concepts by composing with primary, secondary and tertiary color sequences. Students will be given the opportunity to use these theories in exercises given throughout the course. Fee: $60M / $68NM 4 weeks

#05 Beyond The Surface, Optical Depth in Wax
All Levels

In this course we will explore the use of clear encaustic medium in conjunction with other materials such as paper, oil sticks, pastel and image transfers to build paintings that heavily rely on the unique characteristic of the wax- creating a sense of depth and translucency. #07 Encaustic Collage

In this course we will explore using encaustic medium and paints in lieu of acrylics to build collages and mixed media works on panels. We will explore toner & charcoal image transfers. We also will look at the addition of 3-D items to our work and much more. Build depth and texture like never before in this hands-on course. There is a $20 supply fee due for shared materials. #08 All Media Painting Techniques

Develop your own unique style as you learn many techniques of painting in multi-media or work in one media to make your artworks creative and exciting. Learn the key elements or improve upon the use of oil, acrylic, watercolor, watercolor pencil, graphite, etc. Work on a canvases or different drawing surfaces from your own reference materials and still life
set-ups. Individual attention is given to each student who progresses at his/her own pace. Critiques and demos will be given. Fee: $60M/ $68NM 4 weeks

With the portrait drawing class, students will be helped to understand and execute the basic principles involved in capturing a likeness on paper. These principles include hand/eye coordination, gesturing, and shading to achieve solidity of form. Students must supply a photo of someone of their choice to draw from. Fee: $60M/ $68NM 4 weeks

#12 Watercolor Painting
Intermediate to Advanced

Feel you may be intermediate or advanced in watercolors? Want to explore water coloring a bit further? Dive in and create simple compositions from your own references. See how a limited color palette can give you beautiful translucent results. Develop simple Value Studies as your road map. Having to struggle with the Principles and Elements of Art? See how you can manipulate these simple guidelines in your own work. Leave your fear at home and come have fun being loose or tight in the challenges of creating watercolor paintings.

#13 Oil Painting: Back to Basics

#14 Watercolor Without Fear
Beginner to Intermediate

Have fun and eliminate your fears the “Terry Madden” way. Anyone can do it! Create a colorful suggestive and loose painting. No experience is needed with this step-by-step approach. #15 Introduction to Design, Learning to See

This course us designed to use the students previous work to analyze design choices and solutions to design problems. It will also cover beginning to advanced design concepts which also will be directly compared & contrasted to each individuals work. #16 LINE BY LINE - DRAWING

Whether you draw regularly or haven’t drawn in years, this class will provide a framework for tremendous growth in your drawing ability. In this course you will learn to be mindful as you draw and to perceive space and composition with visual clarity. The techniques, tricks, and sequential exercises in this structured class can dramatically improve and give confidence to your drawing skills if you are new to drawing. If you have some experience, you can expect to be drawing at a whole new level of sensitivity and competence by the end of the class. Expect to stretch your right-brain muscles, work hard, learn a lot, and have a very good time. If you’ve always wanted to draw or refresh your skills this class is for you.

#18 Understanding Abstract

This class covers theory, composition, color application, acrylic painting techniques and much more. Work from a nature composition, your imagination or from a composition of geometric shapes. Students will explore the acrylic medium and the purpose and theory behind abstract. Students will learn how to look differently at the world around them and explore more detail in their environment. Abstract can be very geometric or fluid and students will explore both these avenues. Students will also learn various acrylic techniques to achieve texture, depth and layering.

#19 2D Painting Studio
Intermediate to Advanced

Intermediate and advanced painters in oil and acrylic can receive coaching on color, composition and concept in an open format class where the student can paint whatever subject matter is of interest. Along with your questions about painting bring a work that’s already completed on the first day so the instructor can see what level of advancement you have achieved. #20 Making a Creative Writing Journal

If you love to journal write and would like to have an artsy kind of journal to do that in, this class is for you. We will be using a hard cover book that will be repurposed with gesso, paints, and our own handmade gum eraser stamps. Students will be adding the special touches of ribbon, thread, beads and of course a bit of collage art here and there…When students are finished they will be amazed by the textural fulfillment of holding their own creative writing journals with every page inviting them to write more. $5.00 supply fee collected in first class for supplies instructor bring for the first class.

Develop the skills required to paint in oils on canvas or wood panel. Students will learn basic terms, a basic understanding of color, palette preparation and mixing. #23 Figurative Painting in Oils or Pastels
Intermediate to Advanced

Learn how to develop and paint more beautiful and expressive figurative works of art in oil (or pastels). Students will gain new insights into creating atmosphere and mood, as well as keys to mixing clean, natural of flesh colors. Discover how to simply approach building facial features with bold expressive brush strokes. Learn the skills that will give your figures a more fluid and expressive vigor. Work from your own photos or from those provided by the instructor. Fee: $60M / $68NM 4 weeks

#24 Adventures in Silk Painting
All Levels
Instructor: Karen Snow
Session B: 7/14, 7/21, 7/28
Time: 1 – 3:30 pm upstairs studio
Three different silk painting techniques: Arashi Shibori - Using ancient Chinese patterns of folding and wrapping the silk fabric to create a pleated scarf; Microwave marbling - Modern technology is used to create abstract marbled designs on two silk scarves; and Discharge - the process of removing design areas on a prepared colored scarf. All supplies provided. A $26.00 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first class. Wear old clothes. Class size limited to 7

We offer a variety of classes in a number of mediums, levels and times of the day to suit your needs. Classes run 4 sessions a year with workshops in between.

Registration can be made in person at the gallery, by mail or over the phone. You may download a supply list for each class. If there is not one listed, that class may have an all inclusive supply fee with no other supplies required.

Classes cancelled by LGAL due to low enrollment will be offered a full refund.
Student cancellations 8 or more days before the start of a class will be refunded their fee less a $15 admin fee. Cancellations less than 8 days before the start of a class will not be
refunded unless a doctor’s note is provided at time of cancellation.
