In this class, students will be helped to understand and execute the basic principles involved in creating tight, realistic colored pencil renderings. The importance of beginning with an accurate drawing will be stressed before proceeding to color, which is applied progressively in layers and blended through burnishing until a painterly result is achieved. Portraits are the main focus, and the various subject matter is open to choice.

These principles include hand/eye coordination, gesturing, and shading to achieve solidity of form. Students must supply a photo of someone of their choice to draw from.

Join Julie in the studio and outdoors. We will focus on seeing color in the light and shadow spaces along with reviewing value, shapes and mark making. Demo videos are available for the two studio days. We will meet at the Dean Nature Center on July 17 (July 24 rain date) weather permitting. There is a covered gazebo and portable bathrooms. If you need an easel, one can be provided from the art league for a $5 fee.
Class is open for beginners through advanced painters.

This class will focus more on watercolor techniques and feature more challenging class projects than the regular Watercolor Collage Class.

Microwave Dyeing:

Salt Dyeing:
